A large number of the students were away in Hagen on a clinical rotation, so we had a nice, small, intimate gathering with three of our 'regular' attenders. I was SO encouraged by what they shared!
Carolyn - 1st Year Nursing Student
Carolyn shared Proverbs 14:26: "Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge." In the version that she memorized as a teen, it stated "the fear of the Lord is confidence." Carolyn explained that this verse reminds her that the Lord is her refuge and gives her confidence during hard times.
Teddy
Teddy shared a verse that has been one of his favorites for a long time...since we memorized it in Young Life! - Romans 12:1-2: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Teddy encouraged us to 'not conform to the patterns of the world' and daily renew our minds so that they are focused on God.
Beverlyn - 1st Year Nursing Student
Beverlyn read her favorite verse of Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Beverlyn shared that there have been very difficult times in her life when she felt broken and hurt, but that this verse always encourages her that the Lord is near...even in the midst of her feeling 'crushed in spirit.'
Meck - 3rd Year Nursing Student
Meck read one of his favorite verses, Joshua 24:15:"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Meck talked about how much PNG culture today is influenced by the 'world' and not God...and how we are required to make a conscious effort to choose to serve the Lord.
Rachel
I shared from Deuteronomy 31:8: "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." I shared with the students that no matter how uncertain the future feels, this verse has always given me hope that God is walking ahead of me in life, preparing the way. He also walks alongside me, so I have no reason to fear or worry. It was a GREAT time of sharing in God's Word with our PNG brother and sisters. If you have not recently had a discussion with someone about the scriptures...DO IT! Ask someone what their favorite Bible verse is and why... you never know what kind of gems you will discover! : )
